hawaii ministry team | news Dale Lemke recently coordinated the ministries for a team of 18 people from Leeward Community Church in Pearl City, Hawaii. From July 19-30, the Leeward youth and sponsors held a series of Luau-style youth events at the C&MA works in Harumi, Kawaguchi and Sengendai. As a result of their ministry, a number of contacts were made that might otherwise not have been possible. An unexpected opportunity that the Leeward Team had was to cooperate with a ministry called CRASH Japan in providing earthquake relief to victims of the July 16th earthquake in Kashiwazaki, Niigata. This earthquake destroyed over 350 houses and left over 6000 people temporarily homeless.
For the most part, our ministry was to extend God’s grace and hope to the Christian community in Kashiwazaki. We ministered at a Christian Camp and helped Seiko Christ Church clean up after its building was completely destroyed (pictured above and left). We also had the opportunity to minister to a missionary family and their non-Christian secretary. Both families were left homeless following the 2003 Niigata earthquake and again following the earthquake this summer.
