new work in Chiba prefecture | news Landaws, who returned to the field in August, after a year on assignment in the States, have settled to a new area and are beginning to spread the good news in the neighborhood of Wakaba, Chiba. Jane tells the story.
Excerpt from the Landaw Prayer Letter:
Our new neighborhood is feeling more like home as we have set out to “put in the sickle” in the unchurched area of Mitsuwadai in Wakaba (population – about 150,000) in Chiba Prefecture (population – over 6 million) located about 25 miles east of Tokyo. It is a peninsula that extends out into the Pacific Ocean. Chiba is known for its beauty, agriculture, many universities, Makuhari Business, Research and Convention Center, Tokyo Disneyland and also for the New Tokyo International Airport. The average age of these more than 6 million people is 40. We have discovered that this area continues to enhance its traditional spirit of neighborly care which has been poured out on us.
Chiba is also known in our Alliance family for 3 Japanese C&MA churches, 2 Latino C&MA churches and 3 C&MA Filipino churches. We thank the Lord for being assigned to work with 2 of our Japanese churches. Chiba Church is pastored by Rev. Masao Yamanaka. He and his wife planted this church over 20 years ago, and for 14 years, Harry has been involved in teaching an English Bible Study there. Yachiyo Church, started about 15 years ago by missionaries, is pastored by Akira Minamitani who just became the pastor after the retirement of Dick and Janice Kropp. We have worked full-time with this church in the past.
Our main ministry is beginning a Bible Study/Cell Group in our Mitsuwadai neighborhood. We have come into this neighborhood “cold turkey” and we are trusting God for those whose hearts have been prepared to receive the message of Jesus’ love for them. We so deeply realize the need for God’s wisdom as we reach out here. Would you believe God with us for His harvest in Wakaba?
